God breathed? Say What?

#HisWord #theBookofAllBooks

For centuries folks have argued against the divine inspiration of Scripture.  Some have even claimed that it is a myth.  For some researchers, the Gospels apparently have a problem when it comes to defining authorship. In other words which book was written first and did the other authors “borrow” from the Gospel that was written first. The fact remains, either way, God inspired the writing of the Gospel. Maybe a definition of what the term “God-breathed” means will proffer a clearer understanding of the inherency of Scripture.

The Amplified Bible clarifies 2 Timothy 3:16-17 by separating the phrases and providing a theological definition of each phrase.

All Scripture is God-breathed [given by divine inspiration] and is profitable for instruction, for conviction [of sin], for correction [of error and restoration to obedience], for training in righteousness [learning to live in conformity to God’s will, both publicly and privately—behaving honorably with personal integrity and moral courage]; so that the man of God may be complete and proficient, outfitted and thoroughly equipped for every good work .

See Discussion Boards for OBST for a more in-depth look at this topic. Either one believes that the Bible, every single word of the Bible, is breathed out by God to the individual writers, or one does not believe in the infallibility of God.
