Proverbs Chapter 22  #Relationships #Knowledge #growingcloserToGod and #LearningHowToLovePeopleBetter

RELATIONSHIPS

Relationships With People

  • 1good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold. Professionally when you are known for keeping your word; for letting your no be no and your yes be yes that is worth more than being rich. A rich person who is a liar and who does not have boundaries on their mouth is useless to society,  On the other hand, when one seeks to live a life of excellence it will cost you if you live and or work in an environment where “good is good enough!” I have seen that happen many times in my life. I choose to live an for in an atmosphere of excellence. Why? Because I represent the kingdom of God!
  • 11 He that loveth pureness of heart, for the grace of his lips the king shall be his friend.  A person with a pure heart craves to have a “clean heart.” A willingness for God to test their heart. A person whose motives are pure will present themselves as such to persons who are in authority over them unless that person feels intimidated by the pureness of your heart! Yes, it is possible for that to happen. Read the attached Scriptures about a pure heart.
Families
  • 14 The mouth of strange women is a deep pit: he that is abhorred of the LORD shall fall therein. We have already addressed how a contentious mate can make one’s life miserable.
  • 6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. 15 Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him. Parents who sincerely live what they teach their children will see their children reap the benefits of that training. Yes, it is possible for those children to stray and go along a different path. It is not your responsibility to “save” your children. But it is your responsibility to share the love of Jesus with them. The Holy Spirit does the calling. Secondly, we live in a historical time period where parents are being punished for correcting their children with the rod. Scripture is not talking about abusing children here. It is talking about correcting them in an appropriate manner that will yield positive results.
  • 26 Be not thou one of them that strike hands, or of them that are sureties for debts. WHY? 27 If thou hast nothing to pay, why should he take away thy bed from under thee?  Unless you are willing to give up your own home for someone who cannot pay the debt that you signed for – don’t do it.

Our Relationship With the Godhead

  • 2 The rich and poor meet together: the LORD is the maker of them all. There are times when people of wealth look down on people whom they think are poor as “beneath” them. In God’s eyes, we are all the same. But look at what happens when they don’t! 9 He that hath a bountiful eye shall be blessed; for he giveth of his bread to the poor.
  • 3 A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished. Discernment comes from God. Seek after it, ask for it, and use it in our daily lives or we will make decisions that are contrary to God’s will. 1 Corinthians 12:10 KJV identifies discernment as a spiritual gift. “To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:”
  • Both Matthew 5:3 Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven” and Matthew 18:3-4 And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.  Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven” present the benefits of humility from God’s standpoint. Just being a humble person does not save you from eternal damnation if you do not know Jesus Christ as your personal Savior. Note Jesus stated “except you be converted” and have a childlike attitude “ye shall not enter the kingdom of heaven.”
  • 5 Thorns and snares are in the way of the froward: he that doth keep his soul shall be far from them. Strong’s Concordance defines “froward” as “ arrogance.”  Comparing the life of an arrogant person who has no respect for anyone or anything with God’s will for one’s life we can see that YHWH expects us to stay away from such a person. Think about people whom you know. Folks in leadership positions who are arrogant. People on your job. People in your own family. If you cannot avoid them then do not associate with them on a regular basis.
    • 24 Make no friendship with an angry man; and with a furious man thou shalt not go: WHY? 25 Lest thou learn his ways, and get a snare to thy soul. Do you remember this saying? “If you sleep with dogs you will get fleas?” Let’s translate that to today’s vernacular. You become who you associate with!
  • 12 The eyes of the LORD preserve knowledge, and he overthroweth the words of the transgressor. YHWH is ever present. As YHWH He sees and knows all. Now, as human beings, we cannot comprehend how anyone can see, hear, and be aware of everything that all of the billions of people on this earth are doing all at the same time. It is impossible for us to comprehend because we live within time and space and God does not. This is a verse that we have to believe by faith!

Ungodly Attitude

13 The slothful man saith, There is a lion without, I shall be slain in the streets. Being lazy is an ungodly attitude. Paul told the people of Thessalonica how important it is to work and support their families. 2 Thessalonians 3:10-11 (KJV) “For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat. For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are busybodies.” We were made to be able to use the gifts that God has given us to support our families. When we are n ot actively doing the work of the Lord or working to support ourselves or mouths or hands become busy with other people’s business.

INTEGRITY/ACTIONS

7 The rich ruleth over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender, and 16 He that oppresseth the poor to increase his riches, and he that giveth to the rich, shall surely come to want. 22 Rob not the poor, because he is poor: neither oppress the afflicted in the gate: I combined these scriptures because verse 23 explains to us why we should be cognizant of how we treat and take care of the poor among us.  This is as individuals, members of a church, as well as a nation.  If our country is known for its Christian values or for following “The Way” and or “YHWH” then these words are words that we should live by. As people of God, it is our responsibility to take care of the poor and the needy. Now, having said that I know that there are people who will claim that they are the poor and the needy when in fact they are choosing to remain in that category.  This is where discernment comes in. WHY should we take care of the poor? 23 For the LORD will plead their cause, and spoil the soul of those that spoiled them. Our souls are at risk. What? Our eternal destiny is at risk-we are not people whose hearts are being transformed by God is we are not growing closer to him and learning how to love people better. The learning how to love people better part is evident in how we take care of them in Jesus name-not our own! Of course, we are not eternally saved by works. We should also remember that God will always help those who cannot help themselves.

8 He that soweth iniquity shall reap vanity: and the rod of his anger shall fail. Once again we see that whatever we sow we will reap. Also, a spirit that is governed by angry outbursts cannot prosper. No  matter what the person does it will be destroyed because of their anger.  Just ask anyone who has lived a life filled with rage who has been transformed by the Holy Spirit. They will tell you that their anger destroyed relationships! 😦

10 Cast out the scorner, and contention shall go out; yea, strife and reproach shall cease. Anyone who is always attacking people with a negative nature and consistently talking trash about others will ruin a community, business, or endeavor. This Scripture is telling us to remove them from the scenario because they are poisioning the atmosphere and spirits of others. This is a hard thing to do. I will personally remove myself from a poisionous situation!

28 Remove not the ancient landmark, which thy fathers have set.  Presenting a false boundary when selling land is egrious to God. The other thing in today’s language that many people can understand is this; heirs property is just that. It belongs to all of the heirs that the departted person left behind. No one individual in the family should have absolute control over it. If you were fortunate to be chosen to be the executor of your family’s heirs property never, ever, deny your brothers and sisters from having access to that property. It is considered a sin. WHY? Because you have literally eroded the ancient landmark of  your family and made the property yours!

29 Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean menDeligience produces results. Work to earn the rewards of your efforts.

THE BENEFITS OF WISDOM

  • 17 Bow down thine ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply thine heart unto my knowledge. 18 For it is a pleasant thing if thou keep them within thee; they shall withal be fitted in thy lips. 19 That thy trust may be in the LORD, I have made known to thee this day, even to thee. 20 Have not I written to thee excellent things in counsels and knowledge, Listening to wise words without application is not living by them. Going to church every Sunday without changing my spiritual landscape makes church attendance a social event each week.

21

That I might make thee know the certainty of the words of truth; that thou mightest answer the words of truth to them that send unto thee? WHY?1 Peter 3:15 King (KJV) “But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:”

A life lvied through the direction of the Holy Spirit is a life that has accepted the knowledge, understanding, and wisdom encased in God’s word and their lives are being transformed by that life. They look for opportunities to share that wisdom and the Gospel with  others who do not know God!
