Who am I in God?

We believe that humanity was created in the image and likeness of God, but that through Adam’s sin the race fell, inherited a sinful nature and became alienated from God, and that man is totally depraved and of himself utterly unable to remedy his lost condition.

Genesis 1:26-27 (NIV) 26 Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”27 So God created mankind in his own image,    in the image of God he created them;    male and female he created them.

Created in God’s image does not make me a god, it does not place me in the Godhead or even on the God plane.  But it does level the playing field in that Christ’s substitutionary death took me out of the pit of hell and gave me  Romans 3:22-23 (NIV) 22 This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. [I was born in sin and shaped in iniquity headed for eternal death – then righteousness came through faith in Jesus Christ, and now I have a huge family all over the world.] There is no difference between Jew and Gentile [This statement covers the entire specific of humanity including racial and ethnic divides that the enemy uses to filet the body of Christ.}, 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

Romans 5:12 12 (NIV) Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned—Ephesians 2:1-3 (NIV) 1 As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath.Ephesians 2:3 In contexts like this, the Greek word for flesh (sarx) refers to the sinful state of human beings, often presented as a power in opposition to the Spirit. Ephesians 2:12 (NIV) remember that at that time you were separate from Christ, excluded from citizenship in Israel and foreigners to the covenants of the promise, without hope and without God in the world.

But now who am I in God?  Peter clarified my current position in Christ.

1 Peter 2 (KJV) Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speaking, [my fleshly sins that separated me from the Godhead]2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby: If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious. To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious, [This is my NEW identity in Christ] Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ. Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner-stone, elect, precious: and [I ] believe on him [so I] shall not be confounded. Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner, [– the caveat I am] But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; [WHY] that [I] should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light;10 Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.

Father God, I know that the world will disparage me for who I am and the purity of Scripture that I believe.  I am a child of God, a Friend of the redeemed by the very blood of Jesus Christ and nothing will ever change that! Father, I know that my righteousness by and of itself is just filthy rag. But God made you me in your image for such as time as this. To be your disciple and to teach other how to become a follower too. I am a messed up child of God, but I am still a Child of God. We are all Yours Father!  Just as the universal sin of Adam separated me and all of humanity from you Father, so the substitutionary death of Jesus Christ joined all believer into the Family of God.  We have been washed by the fountain of the blood of Jesus Christ, and Father universal sin that was committed in Eden that separated us from you no longer has a hold on me and anyone else who choose life over death!

Father, I pray for the one reading this devotional today.  Not forcing or telling anyone what they must, or should do because you gave each of us the will to choose.  I ask you today Father to use me as an instrument of your peace and love. Amen!

Our God is a God of all Peoples!

sunday morning

According to Hawthorne, Christ is the crescendo of the story of God’s glory. He will have bought and brought people from every tribe and tongue to honor the Father. (1)

Therefore, we should be doing likewise. Look around your Sunday morning service. Does everyone there look like you? Is it a cross section of the culture of the community? Are all persons in positions of leadership from only one of Noah’s sons or are they a cross-cultural representation of your culture?

We must be living examples of God’s word.
