Using The New American Standard Bible (NASB) the literal translation from Greek to English is placed in [ ].
- “The scepter shall not depart from Judah, Nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet, [Or Until he comes to Shiloh, or Until he comes to whom it belongs] Until Shiloh comes, And to him shall be the obedience of the peoples.” (Genesis 49:10)
- “But as for you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, Too little to be among the clans of Judah, From you One will go forth for Me to be ruler in Israel. [Or His appearances are from long ago, from days of old ] His goings forth are from long ago, From the days of eternity.” (Micah 5:2)
Righteous Reign of the Branch
- Then a shoot will spring from the stem of Jesse, And a branch from his roots will bear fruit. (Isaiah 11:1)
- “Behold, the days are coming,” declares the Lord, “When I will raise up for David a righteous [Lit Sprout] Branch; And He will reign as king and [Or succeed] act wisely And do justice and righteousness in the land. (Jeremiah 23:5)
- Your house and your kingdom shall endure before [So with Greek and some ancient mss; M.T. you] Me forever; your throne shall be established forever.” (2 Samuel 7:16)
One can certainly attest to the fact that Christ fulfilled this prophecy. It is only through Him that David’s throne will continue, or establish a King sitting on the throne forever.
