7 Hear, O my people, and I will speak; O Israel, and I will testify against thee: I am God, even thy God.
God is speaking to His chosen people. He tells them to listen to Him! “And I will speak.” First, He accuses them of not knowing that He is the “I AM!” (Exodus 3:16 ). “O Israel, and I will testify against thee:” He is telling them that He will not do it behind their backs. He will not just talk to the prophets about His people. He will tell them about themselves by having the prophets relay the message. He is the Judge, Jury, and Sentencer! They are in court and they cannot appeal his verdict. Psalm 81:8-10 chronicles their behavior. “Listen, dear ones—get this straight; O Israel, don’t take this lightly. Don’t take up with strange gods, don’t worship the latest in gods. I’m God, your God, the very God who rescued you from doom in Egypt, Then fed you all you could eat, filled your hungry stomachs.”
8 I will not reprove thee for thy sacrifices or thy burnt offerings, to have been continually before me. 9 I will take no bullock out of thy house, nor he goats out of thy folds.
Now He gets to the nitty-gritty of their behavior. There are times when we seem to think that if we throw money at causes, people, the church, or even things that we are “doing God a favor!” Well, we are not. Israel kept the letter of the law. However, they had no relationship with Him. They didn’t worship HIm in spirit and in truth. They were demonstrating a form of religion but they were denying the POWER of the God whom they were worshipping. 2 Timothy 3 Verse 9. He does not want anything from us or from them. WHY?
10 For every beast of the forest is mine, and the cattle upon a thousand hills. [This indicates that all of the cattle in the entire world belongs to God.] 11 I know all the fowls of the mountains: and the wild beasts of the field are mine. 12 If I were hungry, I would not tell thee: for the world is mine, and the fulness thereof.
Everything belongs to Him anyway! We cannot bribe God into blessing us. We may want to make a name for ourselves by proclaiming that He has blessed us and therefore we give away 30% of our income to others. When we do that we are appealing to our egos. These verses mean a lot to ranchers because they know what it means to lose animals. They also know that their animals are priceless when there is a drought or a drop in the economy.
13 Will I eat the flesh of bulls, or drink the blood of goats?
In other words, God does not have an appetite that He must appease. He is not like human beings who are always looking for people’s approval. He is GOD! So, what does He wants us to do for our own benefit?
14 Offer unto God thanksgiving; and pay thy vows unto the most High: 15 And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.
When we were called to worship Him and share His gospel message with the entire world what did he ask us of us? Be thankful, and put Him first in our lives! Not recognition, not people, not things, not mini gods, but HIM! When we do that He will do what for us?
Hebrews 13:15 (MSG)
“13-15 So let’s go outside, where Jesus is, where the action is—not trying to be privileged insiders, but taking our share in the abuse of Jesus. This “insider world” is not our home. We have our eyes peeled for the City about to come. Let’s take our place outside with Jesus, no longer pouring out the sacrificial blood of animals but pouring out sacrificial praises from our lips to God in Jesus’ name.“

2 Corinthians 9:7 Talks to us about our responsibilities as Christians.
“Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.”
When I was working I wondered why so many churches were closing their doors. I also wondered why did so many pastors in my area of the world have to be bi-vocational pastors. It was not until I became ill and went to seminary that I comprehended the fact that many of us who are called by His name deny His ministering servant the opportunity to give all of their time to ministry. For me working a full or part-time job is NOT an option. Even though I have a very limited income I still give a tithe to my church. Why?
Matthew 25:14-30 (NIV): The Parable of the Bags of Gold
14 “Again, it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his wealth to them. 15 To one he gave five bags of gold, to another two bags, and to another one bag, each according to his ability. Then he went on his journey. 16 The man who had received five bags of gold went at once and put his money to work and gained five bags more. 17 So also, the one with two bags of gold gained two more. 18 But the man who had received one bag went off, dug a hole in the ground and hid his master’s money. 19 “After a long time the master of those servants returned and settled accounts with them. 20 The man who had received five bags of gold brought the other five. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘you entrusted me with five bags of gold. See, I have gained five more.’ 21 “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’ 22 “The man with two bags of gold also c ame. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘you entrusted me with two bags of gold; see, I have gained two more.’23 “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’ 24 “Then the man who had received one bag of gold came. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘I knew that you are a hard man, harvesting where you have not sown and gathering where you have not scattered seed. 25 So I was afraid and went out and hid your gold in the ground. See, here is what belongs to you.’ 26 “His master replied, ‘You wicked, lazy servant! So you knew that I harvest where I have not sown and gather where I have not scattered seed? 27 Well then, you should have put my money on deposit with the bankers, so that when I returned I would have received it back with interest.
Jesus’ explanation of the talents
28 “‘So take the bag of gold from him and give it to the one who has ten bags. 29 For whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them. 30 And throw that worthless servant outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’
“I have been given much!” I may not have as much to give now, but if I am going to give any money away it will go first to the “kingdom Mission” of God before I give it to charities. Pastor give of their substance, time, and well being to the ministry of God. The least we can do is to give 10% of the 100% that God gives us back to His work. I am thankful for His provision. At the end of each month, I wonder if I will get to the end of the month. Somehow I do. I am thankful for that. Does that mean that the ministry does not solicit donations? Yes, we do! There is a lot more that I could do for others if we had more donations.
17 Seeing thou hatest instruction, and casteth my words behind thee. 18 When thou sawest a thief, then thou consentedst with him, and hast been partaker with adulterers. He will always remind us of how far we have strayed from him. 19 Thou givest thy mouth to evil, and thy tongue frameth deceit. The things that we engaged in will be seen and heard in our speech and on social media the things we post. It will be very clear to people which individuals, cultures, religious groups, etc that we hate! Brethren, it should not be so. 20 Thou sittest and speakest against thy brother; thou slanderest thine own mother’s son. This is probably the most egregious thing that a Christian could do. My grandmama used to tell me that people should not air out their dirty laundry on the clothesline. We tend to post how we feel about others, our family members, and people whom we dislike right in the middle of posting scriptures online. We are not fooling anyone. People know our hearts.
21 These things hast thou done, and I kept silence; thou thoughtest that I was altogether such an one as thyself: but I will reprove thee, and set them in order before thine eyes. God’s children were putting on a show, but now it was time to put up and reap the benefits of their behavior.
22 Now consider this, ye that forget God, lest I tear you in pieces, and there be none to deliver. Wake up, brothers and sisters. Remember who we serve. Live like Jesus, Love like Jesus “lest I tear you in pieces, and there be none to deliver.” We may actually lose the opportunity to place more stars in our crown of righteousness is we don’t wise up and start living like Jesus.
23 Whoso offereth praise glorifieth me: and to him that ordereth his conversation aright will I shew the salvation of God. We praise God – not during worship, but also with what we do, how much we give to his kingdom mission and in what we say and do to and for others.
This is the season to be thankful. So, I am thankful for all that He has done and is going to do for me!
