Only God knows the intents of our hearts!

There are times when one will have a conversation with an individual and you leave them thinking, “What did I do or say to warrant that response?”  Know this, only God can know the true intent of your heart. Sometimes, we are not even sure of why we said something the way we said it. Sometimes we respond in a manner that is out of character and we don’t know the root cause of that response.

For example, I received an e-mail/message one day that was addressed to several people. It was quite intense. I sat and read that message and did not know how to respond to it. I was not the originator of the message. It caused quite an explosive response from the recipients. I know that the sender did not intend for it to be received in a negative manner. How? Because I know the person who sent it very well.

What surprised me were the responses of some of the recipients and the hate mail messages that I received after the message was sent. The destruction that followed was inconceivable because the recipients thought that it was their prerogative to judge, sentence, and execute judgment on the person whom they thought caused the event.

Let’s take a look at what God’s Word says about challenges

37-40 When disasters strike, famine or catastrophe, crop failure or disease, locust or beetle, or when an enemy attacks their defenses—calamity of any sort—any prayer that’s prayed from anyone at all among your people Israel, hearts penetrated by the disaster, hands and arms thrown out to this Temple for help, Listen from your home in heaven. Forgive and go to work on us. Give what each deserves, for you know each life from the inside (you’re the only one with such “inside knowledge”!) so that they’ll live before you in lifelong reverent and believing obedience on this land you gave our ancestors. 1 Kings 8 MSG [ Unless otherwise noted all Scripture cited in this devotional is from The Message Bible found on www.biblegateway.com

Note, “you’re the only one with such “inside knowledge.” What knowledge? The knowledge that is an individual’s soul/heart. David pleaded with God to look deep into the recesses of His heart to ascertain where he was spiritually. What was buried deep inside his soul that could present itself as thoughts and then lead to him acting on those thoughts?

1-6 God, investigate my life; get all the facts firsthand. I’m an open book to you; even from a distance, you know what I’m thinking. You know when I leave and when I get back; I’m never out of your sight. You know everything I’m going to say before I start the first sentence. I look behind me and you’re there, then up ahead and you’re there, too—your reassuring presence, coming and going. This is too much, too wonderful—I can’t take it all in! Psalm 139:1-6

There isn’t a single thing that we can hide from God. But, we can hide things from each other. However, eventually, it will surface. Have you ever watch as children try to hide something that they have done wrong from their parents.  Even if they got away with it when they were children it will resurface when they are adults. John 2 speaks about the ministry of Christ and the apparent love of the people as He served them.

23-25 During the time he was in Jerusalem, those days of the Passover Feast, many people noticed the signs he was displaying and, seeing they pointed straight to God, entrusted their lives to him. But Jesus didn’t entrust his life to them. He knew them inside and out, knew how untrustworthy they were. He didn’t need any help in seeing right through them. John 2

To the disciples, from the outside, it looked as if the people would do anything for Christ. But Christ knew their hearts. He knew that the very same people who were pointing straight at God would be crying “Crucify Him!”

If you are wondering where you stand within yourself as you face the challenges of life ask this request of God.

He loves you. He knows exactly who you are and still loves you! No human being knows you as well as he does. No human being knows your thoughts! If you have been hurt by a telephone, e-mail, or message that a person sent you telling you how you will be punished by God because you have a rotten heart, just know that God loves you! That person does not have the right to judge, sentence, and condemn you.

God alone is your Good, Good Father and knows the reasons why you speak as you do and act as you do. Persons whom He has given the gift of perception will be able to see through your shell of protection, but only God can reveal the real reason why you are in turmoil.
