Are my emotions crucified with Christ?

Many times we look at this Scripture – even quote it without realizing that it also applies to our emotional state. If Christ lives in me am I willing to allow Him to govern my thoughts? It is our thoughts that take down the rabbit trail of emotional distress. Phil 4:6-7 ESV (Unless otherwise noted all Scriptures will be the ESV version found at “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”  There will be situations in our lives that call for asking for help with our thought patterns and the behaviors that result from them. Note that 2 Corinthians 10:5 speaks to just that “We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ,..” God will never leave his people helpless and alone.

When He says “we” He means just that. We belong to a body of believers.  Ro 8:28 declares “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” “We know” this from reading the Bible and believing what it says. We know this because we attend our weekly fellowship meetings where a teacher of God’s word expounds Scripture to us as we grow to love God and feed on His word. We know this when we discuss our growth in the Lord and our life events with our brothers and sisters and receive affirmation that we are walking in the right direction. James 5:16 announces “Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.”

How encouraging to know that a person crucified with Christ has such powerful forces working on their behalf. This applies to the little things in life that a slight hiccups. However, it also applies to the huge mountains that have sent landslides of rocks across our paths and seem to be insurmountable. Those mountain paths may seem to be impassable, but God has an answer and a solution for continuing our journey of joy (1 Peter 1:3-8).  We are never alone. His presence is always with us because the Holy Spirit lives in us. At this point, you may be thinking then why am I depressed? Why do I feel so alone? Why can’t I feel like my risen Savior? Those are all great questions to ask. If you are asking yourself these questions seek answers. They are there, buried in the jewel of great price, The Bible.
