How do I pray? What do I say? Try this…ACTS

#Adoration #Confession #Thanksgiving # Supplication (Unless otherwise cited all Scriptures in this devotional are from the King James Version of the Bible Public Domain.)

Samuel learned how to listen to God’s voice. Eli had given up listening to the Voice of God, and Israel and his family were going to reap the consequences for distancing themselves from God.  See 1 Samuel 3:1-11.

Fast forward to the New Testament, in Matthew 6:5, and we are given an example of how the religious leaders thought people should pray. Christ corrects that superfluous superiority complex methodology of prayer. Frequently folks ask the following question, “How do I pray?”  They are not sure if they should just repeat Psalms 23. Some people think that they should only pray the sample prayer in the book of  Matthew‬ ‭6:9-13‬‬

After this manner, therefore, pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen”

Prayer is just a conversation between two people who care about each other, in this case, a Human being and God.  How often should we pray is another question that people ask. I Thessalonians 5:17 tells us to “Pray without ceasing.” What does that mean? It means pray throughout the day, as often as the Holy Spirit leads us to pray and for as long as he leads us to pray.

Here is a simple acronym that will help you to develop an ideal prayer pattern.

ACTSWhat does each letter mean?

How do I pray using this Acronym?

AExalt Him

The New Testament also tells us that the people “Adored” Christ. “And the multitudes that went before, and that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna to the son of David: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest” (Matthew 21:9). Talk to God about how much you love Him and how you appreciate everything that he has done for you and your family. Give Him the praise and adoration that people tend to give to their favorite movie, soccer, football, baseball, or performer.

Talk to God about your specific sins. Whether it is your hot temper. Your lack of patience with others that leads you to be rude or unkind with them. The spreading of gossip, or lies, etc., Be specific in your confessions. Don’t pray with the attitude, “Well, God, you already know how and when I sinned.” Pray like David, “He knew that he had sinned. However, in Psalm 51:10, David still prayed, “create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.” What about us, do we not need a clean heart and a right spirit before God? Repent, confess, repeat. That is the life of an imperfect human being. We are called God’s righteous ones not because we are righteous, but because of His righteousness! Romans 3:23 reminds us that “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;”

Tthankhim Right now, you might be thinking, “Thank Him? What for? I am sick! My child is sick! My husband is sick! Well, how about thanking Him for the mere fact that He remains faithful to you even when you step away from Him?  There is a time to bring those concerns to Him. But right now, thank Him because He saw us in our “filthy rags” state and still loved us. He saw us living a sinful life and always loved us. He sees us in a bad attitude and still loves us. Thank Him because He, as part of the Trinity,  lives inside of each of us. Thank Him because you have a roof over your head, food to eat, a safe place to return home to, and flesh and blood people who care about you! Thank Him for the blood of Jesus that will heal all of our diseases. Hallelujah.

SsupplicationWell, we are at the end of the acronym. This is the part that I love to do.  Phil 4:6 Be careful for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known unto God.  Be specific and detailed as we pray using this method. Pray for every single person whom you know who has a need that has not been met. Pray for this nation. Pray for its leaders. Pray for your pastors and any and everyone who is in ministry anywhere. Why? The devil hates it when God’s people are reaching out to the unsaved, and he cannot stand it when a department in the church is growing. Why? The people are growing closer to God and learning how to love all people better. Pray for the needs of others. We have a prayer page on Facebook where prayer requests are prayed over. We have a prayer request contact form on this page.  Please use it. We want to pray for your needs too.  Please know that when you pray, God hears you. Tell Him all about your needs, your sorrows just go ahead and tell it all to Him.

It is hoped that this acronym will rev up your prayer time with the Lord. SONG: He has remained faithful to His children. We must stay constant in our time with Him each day.

The procession of praise.

Here we see the psalmist as he talks a procession of praise.  It appears that the psalmist is a long way from the procession that is probably a post-battle parade to celebrate the nation’s victory over an enemy.

24 They have seen thy goings, O God; even the goings of my God, my King, in the sanctuary. When one has battled, through the power of the Holy Spirit, they want to return to the sanctuary and praise the Lord.  Today, when we come out of spiritual warfare we tell it to all of our friends through the medium of social media. Our celebration is more immediate, however, the unity that one experiences when they tell of their victory in the household of faith,, is still visible in social media. What do we focus on when we are using social media? Do we proclaim the victory of the evil of over humanity, or do we proclaim God’s ability to free men from the mental and physical enslavement that they are going through? 25 The singers went before, the players on instruments followed after; among them were the damsels playing with timbrels. The closer that they get to the sanctuary the more embolden with his praises they become. They are so bold in their witness of his greatness that they tell the congretations to . . . .26 Bless ye God in the congregations, even the Lord, from the fountain of Israel. Unified in their purpose to bless God the Children of Israel approach the santuary as a united nation. One day all peoples from all over the earth will comebefore the throne of God and praise him. They will bow before his throne and will become refreshed as they drink from the living waters that  Revelation 22:1 “………. proceed out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.”27 There is little Benjamin with their ruler, the princes of Judah and their council (Jesus was a member of this tribe), the princes of Zebulun, and the princes of Naphtali.

I will bring a tribute to the Lord

28 Thy God hath commanded thy strength: strengthen, O God, that which thou hast wrought for us. There are times when Christians feel that they cannnot go forward with the work that God has given them to do. I know that I have experienced those very same feelings this year. Israel is asking God to strengthen them as they go forward to do the work he has called them to do.  You can reclaim that strength too see I Peter 5:10). 2 Corinthians 12:9 reminds us that . . . “. . he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.” Why? His kingdom mission will end with all leaders bowing before him at Jerusalem.  29 Because of thy temple at Jerusalem shall kings bring presents unto thee. &31 Princes shall come out of Egypt; Ethiopia shall soon stretch out her hands unto God. All nations will appear before God and they will bow down before him in humility. It doesn’t matter how obnoxious leaders are today, they are NOT greater than God Almighty.  Any leaders who cannot admit wrong, like David, and bow before God to seek forgiveness thinks that they are infallible! See Isa. 2:2-4; 18:7; 45:14; 60:3-7; Ezek. Chapters 40-48; Haggai 2:7; Zech. 2:11-13; 6:15; 8:21-22; 14:16-19. 30 Rebuke the company of spearmen, the multitude of the bulls, with the calves of the people, till every one submit himself with pieces of silver: scatter thou the people that delight in war. Their power and wealth will not be able to save them. Today we worship people who are money changers, makers, and losers.  We don’t look to people because of their interity, their humility, and or their dependance on God. No, we want leaders who are braggadocious and persons who are wrapped in sheets of conflict. We need leaders who have a broken and a contrite heart.

The final anthem of praise.

32 Sing unto God, ye kingdoms of the earth; O sing praises unto the Lord; Selah: Why are they singing? 33 To him that rideth upon the heavens of heavens, which were of old; lo, he doth send out his voice, and that a mighty voice. It appears that the psalmist is proclaiming ptophetic utterances in the latter part of this psalm. He is speaking of the layers of heaven. The layers of heaven were created before the beginning of time, as we know it, by Christ (Psalm 102:25 compared with Heb. 1:10). When Christ return to heaven, after his resurrection, he went through all of those layers. The Apostle Pauls refers to them in Eph. 4:10. Also see Acts 1:12 & Rev. 7:2. The psalmist continues to describe where strength comes from and where The ALmighty resides. 34 Ascribe ye strength unto God: his excellency is over Israel, and his strength is in the clouds. Again, David calls on God his Divine Warrior King, the almighty cloud rider who rode the clouds to the highest heavens that He alone has strengthed  and made Israel powerful. Friends in our darkest moments, when life is consuming us we can reach upward to him for strength, power to overcome, and an infusion of life giving light to strengthen us.  We are in daily battles against principalities and powers of darkness Eph. 6:10– 20   Only Jesus can deliver a person, a community, and a nation from he grips of sins, dismay, and corruption. Only He can erase the corrupted laws, and writings that are levied against us. See Col. 2:13– 15 35 O God, thou art terrible out of thy holy places: the God of Israel is he that giveth strength and power unto his people. Blessed be God.

Prayer: Lord thank you for the ability to see the beauty of who you are and the plans you have for your children. I will sing your praises in the good times and in the bad times because you are there with me in both of them.
