Jesus is “The True Light!”

There are numerous sources of light in the “home lighting departments” of every store that proves lighting fixtures and light bulbs. In general, it doesn’t really matter which one you use. It is basically up to you. But when it comes to your spiritual source of light do you choose your light source in the same way? You see there is only one true light! One will hear individuals who are attempting to be politically correct state that their source of power is a “higher power.” People usually say that in an attempt not to offend others by stating that “God” is their source of power! So many people are lost because they do not know the true source of eternal light. They are not familiar with His Holy word that is “thy word is a lamp unto [their] feet, and a light unto [their] path.” (Psalm 119:105  (Unless otherwise noted all biblical references made in this devotional come from the KJV of the Bible.). Subsequently, they continue to live in darkness even though their homes are flooded with electric light. John 1:6-13 delivers a message about “the true source of light or “The True Light.”

  1. John The Baptist – our witness sent by God to identify The True Light.

There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.  The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, [WHY?] that all men through him might believe.  He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.  That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world. 6-9

    • In a court of law, the judge and the jury loves eyewitness testimony. Why? Eyewitness testimony clarifies for both the judge and jury what actually happened. There is no conjecture. There is no circumstance questionable evidence. There is no doubt in the jury’s mind that what the prosecutor is presenting is in fact – factual evidence. The definition of eye-witness testimony declaresEyewitness testimony is a legal term. It refers to an account given by people of an event they have witnessed. For example, they may be required to give a description at a trial of a robbery or a road accident someone has seen. This includes identification of perpetrators, details of the crime scene etc.” YHWH wanted to ensure that there was no question about the validity and reliability of the statement “Jesus is the Light!” Note that He did not use the established religious institution of the time!
  2. YHWH wants everyone to believe in “The True Light” as presented by the eyewitness of John The Baptist: Verses 7-9.

“He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.  That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world. “(verse 8). Also verse 29. Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!”

John clarified that although he was a voice crying in the wilderness He – John – was not the light!  Without Jesus humanity sits in a state of spiritual darkness.

Matthew 4:16 states “The people which sat in darkness saw great  light and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up.” That light was and still is Jesus – The Messiah!

  3. YHWH wants all people to receive  “The True Light” by knowing who HE is: Verses 10-13.

“He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. He came unto his own, and his own received him not.  But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:  Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.”

Today we have people who do not believe in the creation of the earth. Yet, John clearly states that He-Jesus not only came to this earth-He also created it. However, humankind chooses not to receive Him as their Lord and Savior. He remains Their only Lord and Savior-their Passover Sacrifice.   He remains the light of the world.

  4. John 8:12 provides another eyewitness to the identity of “The True Light”, Jesus!

‘Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life [eternal life].”

Receiving “The True Light” opens the way for people to become “Sons of God” themselves; they will never walk around in this world in the dark. Spiritual darkness leaves a person to wonder about their purpose in this life.  They worry about pleasing God because the only God they are familiar with is the vengeful person depicted by sidewalk preachers. However, Jesus clarifies that in verse 29 by stating

“And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.”

One does not have to worry about their purpose. “The Father” is also with them and speaks to them through the “light of His Holy Word – The Bible.” He sent us the comforter – The Holy Spirit – that keeps us in contact with “The Father.” The Godhead lives within us and keeps us in “The Light” and out of darkness.

  5. “The Light” lives within us as a gift from God to His Children.

‘…. begotten Son, [sent by God] that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

The “Light” dispelled all darkness on the day that we acknowledged Jesus as the light, we also accepted John’s final testimony about “The True Light.” On that day we went from being just a plain human being to being “children of God.”

But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the children of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. vs. 12-13.

If that was not enough confirmation, in Luke 3:22, God Himself testified about the identity of the true light.

And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee, I am well pleased.

Finally, Scripture identifies Jesus Christ as “The Light” that dispels the darkness of this harsh world. It takes faith to believe in the “The Light.” However, once an individual accepts Him as “The Light” they are no longer living in darkness and separated from “The Godhead.” So, if you do not know Jesus as your personal Savior connect with us as soon as possible. We will talk to you about how to accept Him. Or you can simply call out to Him with a contrite heart and ask Him to forgive you of your sins. When you do that you move from darkness into the light and you instantly receive the Holy Spirit – all of this happens by faith.
