Labor is work!

Have you ever tried talking to a woman who is in the process of delivering a baby? I suggest that you do not try to do that!!  She is experiencing the most difficult event in her life and it is, in most cases, extremely painful.  She doesn’t want to have a conversation with anyone about anything. Depending on the preparation that she has done for this life event it can be excruciating or it can be laborious. With both of my babies, I chose the Lamaze method of childbirth.  When the labor began for the first child I thought it was going to be over quickly.  It started Sunday afternoon and ended on Tuesday morning.  There was no one else you could do this for me.  I used the relaxation and breathing exercises from Sunday to Tuesday morning.  When hard labor began it did not take more than three pushes and it was over.

Depending on the preparation that a woman has done for this life event it can be excruciating or it can be laborious. With both of my babies, I chose the Lamaze method of childbirth.  When the labor began for the first child I thought it was going to be over quickly.  It started Sunday afternoon and ended on Tuesday morning.  There was no one else who could do this for me.  I used the relaxation and breathing exercises from Sunday to Tuesday morning.  When hard labor began it did not take more than three pushes and it was over.  Childbirth was laborious.  The harvest was coming but only one laborer could carry out this work – if I wanted to have my child naturally.  Or I could call the midwife and the doctors to assist with drugs or even a caesarean section. There would be additional laborers and the harvest would be a baby.  I chose to trust the methodology of childbirth delivery and the prayers of the saints.

This Scripture speaks to the laborers needed for the work of the kingdom.  Many times we consider this work to be rudimentary.  The preacher preaches to the guest we have brought to church because after all that is their job isn’t it? There is an altar call. Now we think our work is done.  But like childbirth, there are some things that the Lord expects from each of us.  The fruit of the harvest of souls is ready to be picked.  Some of those souls can only be reached by the lay members.  No, we do not do the saving, but we do have to do the laboring.  We have to go out there and do the work of sharing the gospel with all people groups. The Holy Spirit is already preparing the hearts of the people to receive it.  But we must be willing to do the labor.

For some of us, it will be as painful as childbirth. For the introverts of the world talking to a total stranger with the hope of developing a relationship with them – with sharing Jesus as the end result – is worse than giving birth.  Chaps, it is worse than accidentally slamming your thumb with a hammer.  You would rather have a tooth pulled without Novocain. At that juncture, when the emotional pain is too intense for us to bear, we have to pray for the Lord of the harvest to send us the power of the Holy Spirt to say the words to open the door to communicate the grace and peace that comes from knowing the Lord.

The world is ripe for the harvest.  It is pregnant and is at full term.  The produce or the fruit of the earth’s womb is ready to be delivered, so what we have to ask ourselves is this simple question.  Are we willing to follow the spiritual process that God has in place to deliver this baby?  When a mother produces a child she is the only one who can complete the process. A church has many individuals whom the Father can use to reap the harvest?  Are you willing to be one of them?

His loving kindness toward the lost and unsaved is greater than the love of a mother for her unborn child.  Pray that God will use you to be a laborer in the fields where the harvest for souls cries out in your neighborhood!  There are tools on this page that will help you.
