Obedience – why?

On that very day Abraham [did]… as God told him. – Genesis 17:23

Abraham trusted his God explicitly. He didn’t quibble with Him.  He  just did it.

If we know better we are expected to do better. God is not a man that we shock mock Him. So many times He reveals to us what we should be doing and we chose not to follow that revelation. Some of us may even say, “So, if I die I die at least I know Jesus!” Or even worse, “So, what there is no Jesus. The Bible is just a fictional book written by people to subjugate others. It is not the revealed word of God! ”  I can to some degree understand that. Especially if you have taken classes on source, historical, or literary criticism of the Bible, or eve philosophy.  All of that date is presented with the writer’s personal bias.  I chose to believe in the one true God.  It is not within man to live a life divorced from his maker. So, if we are not worshipping God we are worshipping something. It could even be ourselves, our jobs, our families, our personal desires.  Whatever govern our decision-making process has become our God. We live lives of allegiance to that God, and we are obedient to him, even if he is just our inner man.  God’s word is clear on the specifics of disobedience.

1 Samuel 15:23 King James Version (KJV)

23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the Lord, he hath also rejected thee…..

What is the one area in your life that God has revealed to you that you need to correct? Now consider your response to this question and see if the word BUT is in the middle of the sentence. If it is then you are choosing not to follow God’s lead. So, what? Well, Israel found out what happened when they refused to  be obedient to God. I know what that is like – I refused to do something that He revealed to me that I should do and now I will live with the results of that decision for the rest of my life.

It is hard to just get up and move when God tells us to because we fight against our own flesh and against principalities and powers that are greater than we are, but GOD is greater than all forces in the universe.  He will equip us to fight and He will win.  We just have to be obedient.
