You Are Not the Only One

This psalm reads like a worship song and a celebration of God. He is Israel’s victor, it’s king, and its judge. As worship leads a congregation into praise, worship, and adoration of Adonai, this psalm leads the congregation of Israel to likewise.

Context

Praise Him – He is your victorious warrior of the past

In the first section of this psalm, the psalmists call on the congregation to sing a “new song’ to YHWH, and then he tells them why they should do so. He has done bold and mighty things in their past, and made know that He is their salvation: Even the heathen recognizes Him.

Praise Him – He is your victorious warrior of the present, today even.

⁴ Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all the earth: make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise.⁵ Sing unto the Lord with the harp; with the harp, and the voice of a psalm.⁶ With trumpets and sound of cornet make a joyful noise before the Lord, the King.

In section two, the psalmist widened the scope of the praise celebration to all living persons on planet earth. Now only that all nations identify Him as the God of their salvation. Just look at the instruments that they are going to use in this praise fest. We praise Him because he is our King (See Exodus 15). He is so powerful that when He defeats the enemies of His people, there is no question as to who is the most powerful God! Just look at all of the instruments that we can use to praise Him. Stringed sich as the harp, today we would use a guitar too, and wind instruments such as trumpets and ram’s horns. Today we would use trombones, clarinet, flute, etc. Our voices are just not adequate to praise Him.

All that He has created praise the God of the future

YHWH deserves our worship because He is the creator of all things. Now the psalmist calls on every living thing on earth worship YHWH with all that they have. They must PRAISE Him because He will be their king right now, and He will be their king in the future. In the future, He returns to re-establish righteousness and equality on this earth.
