Don’t give up!

#HeHasGivenYouAnAssignment #DontQuit  #NeverFeelAsIfYouAreAlone  #BeingSideTrackedIsEasy

Life will throw you a curve every now and then. You may think that your life is spiraling out of control and you just need to give in and stop everything. Now is among the ‘everything” that you are doing in life is a “God-given mission” just know that the thought to quit did not come from God.

In 2 Timothy 4:2 (NIV) our Heavenly Father tells us to

Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction.

Application:Preach [teach/support the minister, ministry, pastor, or person who is teaching] the word; [WHY? When one is open to the word that God is giving to them they are more likely to internalize it. When they internalize it they are preparing their brain to respond to questions that others may have about Him.]  [SO] be prepared in season [while people are actively asking question, seeking out help, advice, guidance, or just someone to listen to them] and out of season [when no one seems to care. When no one wants to know anything about God. When no one wants to do Kingdom work or even participate in Christian ministry.];

He directs us to:

correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction.

Correct: Casual acquaintances or even friends and family members do not like to be corrected from a spiritual standpoint. Case in point.  Is it appropriate for a Christian to be involved in crude and distasteful communications or jokes? According to Scripture the answer to that question is “NO!” In Ephesians 4:29 ESV  Paul makes it quite clear what our speech should not be “Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear. Then he addresses the same issue in Colossians 3:8 ESV in his letter to the Church in Colossae “But now you must put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk from your mouth.” We live in a society that no longer understands what the word obscene means.  Webster defines it as

  • Definition of obscene 1disgusting to the senses: repulsive
  • 2abhorrent to morality or virtue; specifically: designed to incite to lust or depravity… the dance often becomes flagrantly obscene and definitely provocative … —Margaret Mead
  • 2b: containing or being language regarded as taboo in polite usage
  • 2c: repulsive by reason of crass disregard of moral or ethical principles  an obscene misuse of power
  • 2dso excessive as to be offensive
Generally in social media one will come upon jokes that are offensive. In order for me to ascertain whether or not something is distasteful, ask myself this question “Would I say the same thing to Jesus if he was standing next to me?” If the response is no – then I should not be posting it on social media.
Once again in Ephesians 5:4 ESV Paul addresses the issue with the Church at Ephesus.

“Let there be no filthiness nor foolish talk nor crude joking, which are out of place, but instead let there be thanksgiving.” One could look up Strongs breaks up the verse and give the reader a word for word spiritual analysis of the verse. Click on the link for a more exhaustive explanation of the words. In short questionable jokes should never come out of our mouths. Jokes with words in them that would be considered cursing even today, should never come out of our mouths or type on social media.

What does this have to do with the price of putty? Well, as a leader I encountered such an incidence with a group of individuals who thought that what they were doing was appropriate. I was led to address the tone of the written words and it created quite a stir. Individuals walked out to create their own place where they could do as they pleased. At that point, I had an option. Just throw in the towel and quit. The Lord clearly told me the enemy will sidetrack you and tell you that what you are doing is just a waste of time. Don’t give up! Didn’t you just talk to someone who said what a difference the little group made to them? I just complained in my head and said: “People don’t remember the good that one does, they just remember the things that they were told they could not do.”  But that is just human nature. What happened was hurtful. And quite frankly it was easier to just give up right there and them and throw the towel in. But I was not doing what I was doing to make a name for myself I was doing Kingdom work. Correction and rebuke are necessary at times, but so is the encouragement that one needs to not just serve, but also to be a servant leader!

What is the point of this story?

If God has placed a dream in your ❤️ He will make a way for it to happen! I remind myself of that all the time! You see He had placed a vision in my heart and a desire to serve His people that supersedes anything else! Yes, there are times when I feel as if I am hanging out there on my own. It takes a lot of work to build a ministry. It is even harder when you have health challenges. But if I just quit how is that showing my faith in the mission that I was given?

Currently, there are so many things going on in this world and it is easy for one to lose focus! Everyone had a cause! Everyone has a thing that they want us to support! It would be so much easier to jump on any of the various bandwagons and eliminate the pressure of doing ministry. But I cannot quit!

When things get tough God gets moving! You may have such a dream in your heart! Don’t allow circumstances or other people’s responses to your Christian worldview to deter you. Just have an “Even If” attitude and God will stand by your side.

When life is spinning out of control and you just want to get off the wheel find someone you can talk to. We are here for this purpose. You are not alone! You are not the only one! God has given you a dream. Every challenge is preparing you for the fulfillment of your dream-even if it seems impossible! ♥
