Sound the trumpet!

These guys believed that God would keep His promises! Imagine just leaving everything in God’s hand! Believing that He will solve our problems no matter what they are, or even if they take absolute faith in God’s ability to deliver us and keep His promises to us!

Can you imagine walking up to a city that had impenetrable walls? Not knowing what would happen to your people? Joshua went through that. Just look at this story in Joshua 6 KJV.

Now Jericho was straitly shut up because of the children of Israel: none went out, and none came in. And the Lord said unto Joshua, See, I have given into thine hand Jericho, and the king thereof, and the mighty men of valour. And ye shall compass the city, all ye men of war, and go round about the city once. Thus shalt thou do six days. And seven priests shall bear before the ark seven trumpets of rams’ horns: and the seventh day ye shall compass the city seven times, and the priests shall blow with the trumpets. And it shall come to pass, that when they make a long blast with the ram’s horn, and when ye hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people shall shout with a great shout; and the wall of the city shall fall down flat, and the people shall ascend up every man straight before him. Verses 1-5

Be mindful that these chaps have never experienced this before. It was like the Red Seas incident all over again. But Joshua trust completely in God. He knew that God has never broken His word to His people. He proclaimed the following to the people.

And Joshua the son of Nun called the priests, and said unto them, “Take up the ark of the covenant, and let seven priests bear seven trumpets of rams’ horns before the ark of the Lord And he said unto the people, Pass on, and compass the city, and let him that is armed pass on before the ark of the Lord.” [ He believe absolutely!] And it came to pass, when Joshua had spoken unto the people, that the seven priests bearing the seven trumpets of rams’ horns passed on before the Lord, and blew with the trumpets: and the ark of the covenant of the Lord followed them. And the armed men went before the priests that blew with the trumpets, and the rearward came after the ark, the priests going on, and blowing with the trumpets. Veses 6-9

Absolute faith takes absolute action that demonstrates a belief in His deliverance. I know that sometimes I flounder in this area. He has to pick me up and stand me on the “Solid Rock-Jesus!” Let’s see what Joshua does next? Does he go to the priests for confirmation of the word he heard from God? Does he even ask God how he is going to do this? Remember he was no longer a young man? He was with Moses in Egypt, in the desert, lived through the death of all of the adults who did not believe that God would take them to the promised land. Now in front of them stood this fortified city that has never been captured by any invader before him! What would we do in this scenario?

And Joshua had commanded the people, saying, “Ye shall not shout, nor make any noise with your voice, neither shall any word proceed out of your mouth, until the day I bid you shout; then shall ye shout.”  Verse 10

Then they acted. Take the  God into and around the problem and it will fall! He had no doubt at all. Are you facing a serious problem today? Are you ready to be a Joshua to that spiritual mountain that is blocking your path? Continuing with Joshua’s story!

So the ark of the Lord compassed the city, going about it once: and they came into the camp, and lodged in the camp. And Joshua rose early in the morning, and the priests took up the ark of the Lord. And seven priests bearing seven trumpets of rams’ horns before the ark of the Lord went on continually, and blew with the trumpets: and the armed men went before them; but the rearward came after the ark of the Lord, the priests going on, and blowing with the trumpets.  And the second day they compassed the city once, and returned into the camp: so they did six days.  Verses 10-14.

So the followed the directions but seriously 6 days? They marched for 6 days before what? 6 days of marching and nothing happened. 6 days of praying and nothing happened. 6 days of doing nothing themselves to fix the problem! Can you imagine? I have trouble sometimes waiting 6 hours for something. This was a huge mountain in their path. A fortified city that was insurmountable! Impenetrable! Wow. so what does God do in this scenario?

And it came to pass on the seventh day, that they rose early about the dawning of the day, and compassed the city after the same manner seven times: only on that day they compassed the city seven times.  And it came to pass at the seventh time, when the priests blew with the trumpets, Joshua said unto the people, Shout; for the Lord hath given you the city.  And the city shall be accursed, even it, and all that are therein, to the Lord: only Rahab the harlot shall live, she and all that are with her in the house, because she hid the messengers that we sent. Verses 11-17!

Joshua just did what God told him to do. He didn’t have the entire Old Testament and the witnesses of the NT telling him that God was real and that he had conquered death, and the grave. He just believed. And God…

So the people shouted when the priests blew with the trumpets: and it came to pass, when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, and the people shouted with a great shout, that the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city. Verse 20.

The city walls collapsed just as God had promised. If He can collapse the wall of a fortified city He can move my mountain that is standing in my way. He can solve my problem whatever it may be. Can you and I believe like Joshua? We have the Holy Spirit dwelling in us. The very power that collapsed the walls of that city lives in us! WOW! Press on my friends, He is with us! Contact us if you want to talk about and pray through the mountain that is standing in your way today.
