The only one who is in control is God.

Today we see reports of people who are so enraged about wearing masks that they are spitting in other people’s faces. These behaviors are just outward manifestations of:

  • the inner pain that has become so normal that they do not want to let it do. Do you remember Melissa Manches who sang the song ‘Don’t Cry Out Loud.?” she directed persons to hide their feeling. Hiding your feelings just buries the pain deeper into your psyche. Instead why not try crying out to the one who can heal the pain that you are experiencing? “When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears and delivers them out of all their troubles. The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all. He keeps all his bones; not one of them is broken” Psalm 34:17-20 ESV.
  • tortured pasts: There are so many things fro our past that can burden us and snuff our the light of peace that God extends to us. Is it better for us to hold on to those things or is it better for us emotionally, physically, and psychologicalls to ‘Come to me [Jesis says], all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.’ Just accept the emotional rest that Christ is offering us.
  • unholy righteous indignation; I have seen and read so many statements from ‘righteous’ persons who are hurt and experiencing deep emotional, and spiritual pain. They are tortured because they have not released their past, and present fears, to YHWH. When that happens to any of us we take out of anger on poor unsuspecting persons.
  • terrifying fears, scars from the past that are not healed, and the craziness of this world that leaves people thinking that they are the captains of their own ship and they do not have to sail on the waters of life with other people who are in their own ship. What’s more, the waterways are so crowded right now that they are colliding with other people and do not know how to wait for the harbormaster to tell them that it is safe for them to proceed.
