There is a song that we used to sing in church periodically when I was a youngster. The music is depressing – IMO – but it clearly states that God will take care of His children today.

We don’t have to wait until we are dead for Him to wipe away all of our tears from our eyes. We don’t even have to wait until the new heavens and the new earth for Him to wipe away all tears from our eyes. David, who endured much sorrow, and persecution penned Ps 58:6 KJV (Unless otherwise stated all Scriptures cited in this devotional are from the King James Version.) “Thou tellest my wanderings: put thou my tears into thy bottle: are they not in thy book?” Can you imagine The Almighty bottling your tears or even writing down each time you cry? His word declares that He does just that!

Psalm 31:9 addresses the presence of the Lord being with David “Have mercy upon me, O Lord, for I am in trouble: [when one so intensely that their tears taste like salt water, that is when their] eye is consumed with grief, yea, my soul and my belly.” Now David is not calling out with an expectation that this grief will disappear when He dies and sees his maker.  No, He is pleading for, and expecting, relief during his period of grief.

An even clearer picture of relief during one’s present time of suffering is evidenced in Heb. 5:6-7 “6.Thou art a priest forever after the order of Melchisedec. [What did he do?]⁷ Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death and was heard in that he feared” Melchisedec knew that his prayer and the flowing of His tears would end when his prayers were heard.

Our heavenly Father, like a good earthly father, does not want His children to be in a state of continual grief.  Luke 6 declares “Blessed are ye that hunger now: for ye shall be filled. Blessed are ye that weep now: for ye shall laugh.” Scripture tells us “My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations (Ja 2:2). Grief, sorrow, sadness, or the need to cry until there are no more tears left is a temptation that intense sorrow brings about in a person’s life! We do not have to bear our sorrows alone. We can come to a resolution that joy comes from the Lord a little sooner than we think if we are willing to walk through the pain with someone and through prayer, and fasting if need be.

Do you want to experience JOY today? You can! God already has a solution for whatever it is that is causing you to cry tears, or to experience grief or sorrow. Remember that it does not take the death of a loved one for an individual to experience grief.
