Gratitude Day # 25 Thankful that I am still here and able to fight the good fight.

Within the context of this Scripture in I Tim 6:9-21 we see that Paul was encouraging Timothy to avoid contentious conversations, stick to the keeping of the commandments, continue the Christian walk which Paul called “the good fight of faith.”

9But those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a snare and many foolish and harmful desires which plunge men into ruin and destruction. 10For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil, [note it does not state the root of all evil] and some by longing for it have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.  11 But flee from these things, you man of God, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, perseverance gentleness. [Pursue the fruit of the spirit-take the high road instead of falling into the temptations that were prevalent in the Antioch church.  This was a rich church, and people were equating wealth with holiness.]12Fight the good fight of faith; take hold of the eternal life to which you were called, and you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses. [It takes faith to fight “the good fight” live a life that is not filled with contention. Taking the high road means being dead to self and the get even mentality of this world.]13I charge you in the presence of God, who gives life to all things, and of Christ Jesus, who testified the good confession before Pontius Pilate, 14that you keep the commandment without stain or reproach until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ, [Paul reiterates for TImothy what is called out purpose in God was at that time.] 15which He will bring about at the proper time—He who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords, 16who alone possesses immortality and dwells in unapproachable light, whom no man has seen or can see. To Him be honor and eternal dominion! Amen.   [HERE THE BONE OF CONTENTION IS IDENTIFIED-not that it is a sin to be rich, but it is a sin to fix their eternal hope on their riches.]17Instruct those who are rich in this present world not to be conceited or to fix their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly supplies us with all things to enjoy. 18Instruct them to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, 19storing up for themselves the treasure of a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is life indeed.  20 O Timothy, guard what has been entrusted to you, avoiding worldly and empty chatter and the opposing arguments of what is falsely called “knowledge”— 21which some have professed and thus gone astray from the faith. Grace be with you. (NASB)

Many times one believes that they stand alone in this world and are so afraid to speak of what God has done for them. YHWH will give us the words to speak, and the kind of life that we live will be a witness to others. There will be times when persons will claim that you are not x, y, or z based on what they believe that you should be, or what they possess, or project to possess. But if one can truthfully state that they have not intentionally acted in a manner that has been harmful to their witness, and has asked the offended party for forgiveness, then they can move on.  Fight the good fight. Stay away from contentions – they rob the soul of the precious joy that God has given us. My team knows that I have a saying “this is the drama free zone.” When one makes a statement like that one is aware that they 12 …..do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm (Eph 6:12-13 ESV.) The enemy will come after you and fights will erupt, but let the fight be for the glory of God and let the end result be because you have taken the high road.  There is a God who loves us and wraps us in His arms. So, we are not alone in this battle. Stand firm my friends and fight that good fight. Share your testimony of how God has worked in your life. Give Him the glory for who you are and where you are in life. Praise Him for deliverance!
