On Not Loving the World

“Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world.” 1 John 2:15-16

I looked at this scripture this morning and thought to myself:

  1. What is it in this world that I love more than I love my Lord?
  2. What is it in this world that I put before my Lord?
  3. How do I value the things of this world more than I value my Lord?
  4. Why am I drawn to the things of the world, and how is that drawing impacting my walk with the Lord?
  5. What things do I lust after so much so that I am willing to take time away from the Lord to get them?
  6. Why would I even take the very blood of Jesus for granted in order to have these things that I may be lusting after?
  7. How can I stop myself from desiring these things?

Then I realized even more so why I need Jesus today more than ever before.  His blood and only His blood covers me. My thoughts are sins against myself and only myself and the Lord. The Holy Spirit and the power of the cleansing blood of Jesus prevent me from allowing my thoughts to becoming actions that sin against others! Only the blood gives me the capacity not to lust after the things of this world, and love those things more than I love God! Why?  “…we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace” Eph. 1:7. To be redeemed means to be purchased back. The price has been paid, and it is through the blood of Jesus Christ. What does this have to do with, “Do not love the world or anything in the world”? It is the loving of the things of this world that causes us to sin. It is a symbiotic relationship that can only be prevented by the blood of Jesus Christ. “How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?” Heb. 9:14. It is the purging of the blood that prevents us from, “not [loving] the world or anything in the world 1 John 2:15-16. You see you cannot mix blood and the world, or blood and church membership, or blood and works, or blood anything of this world, simply through faith in the blood of Jesus Christ do we have remission of our sins and the power not to love the world or anything in the world1 John 2:15-16. Thank you for the shed blood of Jesus Christ Father God that keeps us from loving and lusting after the things of the world.
