May 19,2011 We are “forever” people

Today, in Girlfriends and God, Mary Southerland stated “We must be very careful to choose the right backdrop against which we live our lives. Our backdrop is eternity – not the tyranny of urgent demands made by a relentless world. Our backdrop is an old rugged cross and an empty tomb – not the temporary trials or painful circumstances we face in this very fleeting life. We are “forever” people. Like the old song says, “This world is not my home. I’m just passing through.” My favorite words in the Bible are “but God.” Those two words create an eternal backdrop that changes everything. Everything looks different when He comes. Everything is made different by His presence. To survive and succeed in life, we must stop and take the long look, refusing to fix our gaze on the “little things” that are meant to divert God’s plan. If we want to live a life of victory, our glance must be on the circumstances and our gaze must be on Him.”
I was very touched by this message, especially the “forever” people. Thank you Jesus that You gave me the vision to look past the “circumstances” of my past and keep my eyes on You! Do you focus on the NATURAL world and all of your STUFF or do you focus on JESUS and all the RICHES of Heaven that He has stored up for you? Do you focus on being a FOREVER person or just a RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW person? Why limit your vision?

Will you pray with me?

Father, thank You for the eternal life I have in You. Forgive me when I get so caught up in the things of this world that I forget who I am and where I am going. Help me to be a “forever” person. I am Your child. I am Your daughter and my home is in Heaven with You. Praise God!

In Jesus’ name,

Amen

Bueller, is it anger or another emotion you are not ready to face just yet? Perhaps a long conversation in silence with our Lord might do the trick. Ask Him to reveal what it is that you are not aware of that is causing this feeling. Ask Him to reveal “which” emotion it is that you are experiencing and then listen carefully for that still small voice inside you. This too you shall conquer!

Wynette, I actually was thinking these same things yesterday during our BodyPump class. There is one song, I think it’s a Bon Jovi sing alike one, where it says something like, we may as well live today because we die when we die. I kept thinking, no, I do not ascribe to that lyric because I will live eternally. Interesting to read it here, too. Gotta be a God Thing!
