Mike Overton’s Post..New Year!

As we head into a new year, there’s a lot of reflection happening across business and leadership. We live in a time when many people — especially young people — spend more time indoors and on screens than ever before. There’s a growing nature deficit in our society, and it comes at a real cost: mental health, perspective, and connection. Time outdoors still matters. Time on the water. Time in the marsh. Time moving, breathing, paying attention. Those moments slow us down and remind us what’s important. For purpose-driven businesses, this belief should shape how work gets done. Not chasing “more” for the sake of growth, but focusing on doing things better — creating quality experiences, offering quality products, delivering quality service, and building strong teams. That same thinking applies to group events and shared experiences. The most meaningful gatherings — whether outdoors or indoors — aren’t about packed agendas or checking boxes. They’re about bringing people together with intention, creating space for connection, and designing experiences that feel authentic and memorable. When done well, those shared moments build trust, alignment, and relationships that last well beyond the event itself. It also means encouraging people to buy less and buy better — choosing durability, intention, and experiences that last over volume and noise. Looking ahead, the opportunity is to stay nimble as markets change while remaining anchored in clear values: Outside’s are: safety, excellence, passion, sustainability, and teamwork. And to build workplaces and experiences where people feel proud of what they’re part of and connected to something that matters. The outdoors gives us perspective, humility, and responsibility — and when thoughtfully woven into experiences, it deepens connection even further. The hope is that more organizations and communities continue to protect it, invest in it, and help the next generation reconnect with it. Here’s to a thoughtful, purpose-driven year ahead.
