Dear Father God,
Today, I pray as You instruct us in 2 Chronicles 7:14.
Yahweh, I am Yours, one of Your people, called by Your name for Your expressed purpose. Yahweh, You called me to be salt and light in this dark world, and sometimes, I am neither of those things because the world has crept in and infiltrated my spirit. But Glory to You, Holy name. Abba, You reached down, You picked me up, and You turned me around. Then You placed my feet on the path of light where I should be walking. I am so imperfect, Abba, but The Holy Spirit still lives in me. We are “Your People” who are called by Your Name through the shed blood of Your Son, Jesus Christ, Our Lord.
So on this Independence Day, when we commemorate the time that a new nation came to be, I pray that this nation, and every single member of Congress, and persons in positions of leadership will fall before Your almighty throne and humble themselves and pray for the haughtiness of spirit that they are demonstrating. The uncivil way that they are dialoguing with each other. The unacceptable example that they are setting for our children. Abba, may they remember that decorum and civility are the hallmarks of Christianity, and 4-year-old temper tantrums are not how they should be leading. Self-control is a fruit of the spirit. Abba, I pray that all leaders will demonstrate it as they make decisions that will affect this entire nation. 1 Timothy 3:2, and Galatians 5:22-23 both reference self-control. I hold onto the hope that they will embrace this self-control.
Abba, I know that self-control is discussed in Proverbs 16:32 and Proverbs 25:28. Scripture connects self-control to strength and stability, which means we, as leaders, must show leaders that we understand that for every reaction, there will always be a consequence. Abba, when I am faced with defamation and or anger, please help me to remain composed and to show the fruit of the spirit.
Abba, on this independence day, I humbly bow before You, and I seek Your face for myself and for all of the leaders in Jasper County. Lord, open our eyes and make us aware of anything in our lives that is sinful, that is a hindrance to Your blessings, or a disgrace to Your name . Abba, I am determined to turn from my wicked ways. I deeply regret my sins; forgive me of that sin, Abba. Lord, all have sinned and fallen short of where You want us to be. That is why we are thankful for the blood of Jesus, which cleanses us from all our sins. Proverbs 16:32. Father in heaven, 875.9 thousand South Carolinians receive SNAP assistance every year. Please provide for them. Abba, I know that the food banks in Jasper are in dire need of food. Their shelves are almost empty. They barely have canned goods, fresh fruit and vegetables are practically non-existent, and baby food is scarce. The cost of food is so high that children are starving this summer. Please make a way for them to have hot and nutritious meals, Abba. The urgency of this situation fills my heart with compassion. I worry about senior citizens who will have to leave the care facilities. Provide for them, too, ABBA. Matthew 25:35-40 NKJV.
Abba, I plead for Your forgiveness for the poor decisions that are being made, which will significantly harm people with low incomes and those who are fatherless. I plead for forgiveness for this land. Please, Lord, forgive us and heal our minds, hearts, emotions, and outlook on life. In the holy name of Jesus, I pray, Amen.
