The Mind Matters by David Jeremiah

James 1:5-8 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.

And take the helmet of salvation.

And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; Ephesians 6:17:

The turban worn by Israel’s high priest was a mitznefet. That same word now describes a floppy, fabric helmet-covering worn by today’s Israeli soldiers on the battlefield. It breaks up the crisp silhouette of a traditional helmet, reduces glare, provides shade, and blends in with the terrain. Innovation continues—from Roman times to the present day—to find better ways to protect the head in battle.

The reason for protecting the head is to protect the brain—or in spiritual terms, the mind. When Paul refers to the “helmet of salvation” as part of our spiritual armor, he surely means the protection of the mind. So how does salvation protect our mind—our thoughts, our need for wisdom, our communication with God in prayer? It is the assurance of our salvation that forms the protective shield against doubt, temptation, and carnal or unwise thoughts. Just knowing we can call on God for wisdom, grace, and mercy at any time protects us from the fiery darts of Satan.

Hebrews 4:16 NKJV Let us, therefore, come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Do everything you can to protect and renew your mind by resting in the assurance of your salvation through Christ.

The end for which God instructs the mind is that He might transform the life.
