Passover was not a foreign concept to the early church. They understood the significance of  the Passover and that it symbolized what John the apostle wrote and John the Baptist states in John 1:29 “The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.”  Moses wrote about the marking of the doorposts with the blood of the lamb. Read Exodus 12:7-13 (KJV). The early church considered the markings on the doors post to be precursors for the blood that Jesus shed on the cross. Without the death of Jesus Christ, God the Father would look on the world and see it in its state of sin.  Sin is something that God hates. His anger and dismay are abated because today when He looks at humanity, He sees His one and only Son as the Passover sacrifice that was made thousands of years ago.

Today, He waits patiently for humanity to accept this ultimate sacrifice as a substitution for the penalty of sin that man deserves Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God [salvation is that gift] is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” The unleavened bread eaten at Passover symbolizes the expectation that the sacrifice of Christ requires from each committed Christian. That commitment includes leaving the sins of this world behind; to remain unleavened. To live holy lives, as servants of God, that separates them from the world, but prepares them to share the good news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ – our Passover Lamb! Lamb of God Song.
